What changed in 2026 — important

Bulgaria joined Schengen

Old Bulgarian national visas don't allow EU travel. You need the new type C visa.

EES system: border biometrics

Borders now scan face and fingerprints. We recommend biometric passports.

Financial threshold raised

250,000 rubles is now 'borderline'. Consulates unofficially expect 400,000+ rubles.

Single-entry visas prioritized

In 2026 most visas are issued strictly for travel dates. Multi-entry only for strong cases.

What is

Schengen Visa (type C)

A Schengen visa is a short-term visa allowing travel across 27 Schengen countries without separate visas for each. You can stay in the Schengen area for up to 90 days within any 180-day period.

Despite the end of the simplified regime and tightened rules in 2026, consulates continue issuing visas to Russian citizens. Most lenient countries: Spain, Italy, France, Hungary, Greece.

Single-entry

One entry. Cancelled after exit. Most common in 2026.

Double-entry

Allows two entries into the Schengen area within validity period.

Multiple-entry

Unlimited entries following 90/180 rule. Up to 5 years. Requires strong case.

FAQ 2026

Common Schengen questions

All key questions — from application to refusal

Is it possible to get a Schengen visa as a Russian citizen in 2026?

Yes. Despite restrictions (single-entry priority), consulates of Spain, Italy, France, Greece and Hungary continue issuing tourist and business visas. The key is proper financial guarantees and a convincing travel purpose.

How long will the visa be valid in 2026?

Most visas are issued strictly for travel dates (single-entry). Spain usually issues date-specific visas. Italy and France may still grant 6-month multi-entry for strong cases with good visa history.

How much money do I need to show?

Due to exchange rate changes, consulates have unofficially raised the bar. 250,000 rubles is 'borderline'. We recommend showing 400,000+ rubles for a 2-week trip, plus 3 months of account activity.

Is personal presence required?

If you submitted biometrics for a previous Schengen visa within the last 5 years, personal presence is not required — we submit documents for you. If not, one visit to the VFS centre is needed.

Can I apply from Armenia without residency?

Yes. Russian citizens can apply for a Spanish Schengen visa in Armenia without residency — just an Armenian social card (issued in 1 day). BLS slots open once a month and fill in hours — we monitor them.

What if I've already been refused?

It's not the end. We analyse the refusal code in the stamp, fix weak points, and submit a new strong case — often through a different country. We also prepare appeals if needed.

What is the EES system and how to prepare?

EES (Entry/Exit System) scans face and fingerprints of all third-country nationals at EU borders. Apply only with a biometric passport (10-year) — mandatory for correct system operation.

What changed with Bulgaria joining Schengen?

Since 2024 Bulgaria is a full Schengen member. Old Bulgarian national D-visas no longer grant transit through other EU countries. A Schengen C-visa is required for entry, but a Bulgarian Schengen visa now opens all of Schengen.

Can I use a Schengen visa to look for work in Spain?

No. A Schengen C-visa covers only tourism, business meetings and transit. Employment requires a D-visa. Violations result in deportation and entry bans. If relocating is your goal, we'll find the right visa type.

Is travel insurance mandatory and what must it cover?

Yes, insurance is mandatory. Minimum coverage: €30,000, valid across all Schengen countries, including emergency medical care and repatriation. Only use insurers accepted by consulates.

What is the 90/180 rule and how do I calculate it?

You may stay in Schengen for a maximum of 90 days within any 180-day window. The window rolls daily — count backwards 180 days and sum your days there. Exceeding this means fines, deportation and entry bans. We calculate your limit for free.

Do I need to book a hotel in advance?

A housing reservation is required for the application, but refundable bookings are accepted. Refusals due to accommodation are rare — most refusals are due to finances or unclear travel purpose. We help build a convincing file.
